Light in the Darkness!
“The people walking
in darkness have seen a great light…” (Isaiah 9: 2a NIV84).
As I listen to the news this morning, it is filled with
darkness—wars, murder, thievery, crimes against children—the list could go on
and on. Even in this time of joy and
celebration, It’s hard not to dwell on the evil that surrounds us. For some, it
is not just the evil, it is the grief that becomes all too real as they see the
empty chair around the table.
Thankfully, there can be joy despite
the darkness that threatens to engulf us.
The words spoken to the shepherds that night so long ago still ring true
today, “Do not be afraid. I bring you
good news of great joy that will be for all people” (Luke 2: 10 NIV84).
The “good news” is that the light
has come into the darkness, and while the darkness has not accepted the light,
ultimately, the light will overcome the darkness. That light is Christ, our Lord! “In him was life, and that life was the
light of men” (John 1: 4 NIV84).
As you celebrate the birth of our Savior with family and
friends, focus on the light—not the darkness.
Don’t allow Satan and his followers to steal your joy. We have a Savior who loved us so much that He
went to the cross to grant us access to the eternal light. His light will never fade away.
The Apostle, John, tells us, “If
we walk in the light as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one
another, and the blood of Jesus purifies us from all sin” (I John 1: 7 NIV84). That’s my prayer for each of us this
Christmas—that we might walk in the Light, knowing that our Savior has already
conquered the darkness. That’s not just
good news! That’s the reason for the
season!
Merry Christmas to all of you! May you thrive in the light of Jesus!
