What Can the Women of the Bible Teach Us?
Recently my women’s Bible study group completed a two-year
study of the women of the Bible. Along
the way, we learned some valuable lessons by simply reading the Scripture
references about the individual women and then considering 6 questions.
What do you like best?
What do you like least?
What do you not understand?
What do you learn about God or
Jesus?
What do you need to do about it?
What verse or phrase do you want to
take with you?
These
questions are used in Discovery Bible Groups, and they helped us to “discover”
a variety of things, some good and some bad, about the women of the Bible. We learned even more about how God views
women. While many think that the Church
does not value women or allow them to reach their full potential, the Scripture
paints a much different view from God’s perspective. In a time when women were little more than
property, God elevated them over and over again, confirming their worth and
giving them coveted positions in His story.
When we
think of the heroes of the Bible we are immediately drawn to men like Noah,
David, Daniel, the Disciples, and Paul. Too
often we ignore the women like Deborah, Esther, Mary Magdalene, and the women
who supported Jesus’ ministry. Over the next
few weeks, I want to invite you to join me as I share some of the insights that
our group learned from studying the women of the Bible. You just might be surprised.
Join me
next Tuesday as we take a closer look at Eve.
