God is in the Details!
For weeks, we have all heard about the solar eclipse. People traveled miles, clogging highways, and selling out hotel rooms just to view this phenomenon for a few short hours. Eclipse glasses were also sell-outs, and the news media was all over this event. Here in Louisville, it was almost as big as Thunder over Louisville.
Yet, I
couldn’t help but think about the awesome power of God in presenting this
majestic display of His power. “In
the beginning God created the heavens and the earth…. God made two great lights—the
greater light to govern the day and the lesser light to govern the night…” (Genesis
1a & 16a NIV84).
For a
total solar eclipse to occur, the sun, the moon, and the earth must be in
perfect alignment. That in itself is a
miracle but when you consider that we can determine the exact path and time of
the eclipse as well as the date of the next one, the eclipse becomes just one
more reminder of God’s majesty. Like the
ebb and flow of the ocean tides and the changing of the seasons, only God could
orchestrate a total solar eclipse with such detail and precision.
God is a
God of details. He didn’t just tell Noah
to build an ark. He gave Noah detailed
plans. He didn’t just warn the
Israelites that their unfaithfulness would bring punishment. He gave them detailed prophecies of what that
punishment would look like. He didn’t
just promise us a Savior. He gave
detailed prophecies of how to identify our Savior.
The details reflected in all His
creation, including the solar eclipse, are a constant reminder of God’s
interest in the details of our lives. I
love the song, God is in this Story because it reminds us that He cares
about the intricate details of our lives.
The same God that put the sun and moon in place and brought them into
perfect alignment with the earth to form a solar eclipse is the same God who
sent His Son to die for my sins. He is
the same God who will someday remove all pain and sorrow. When that moment comes, we will no longer
need the sun or the moon to light our way.
God will be the light! We can be
assured that He will take care of every detail because that’s the kind of God
He is. Praise the Lord!
