Day 26: Show Kindness!

Day 26: Show Kindness to Others

Read and Meditate on:  Luke 10: 30 – 37

                                          Ephesians 4: 32

                                          Colossians 3: 12 – 17

Begin by reflecting on yesterday.  Did you speak to your spouse with gentleness and patience?  Were your interactions filled with compassion and humility?  Did your children see you as one of God’s children filled with the peace of Christ?  Did you forgive others just as Christ forgives you?  Did you show kindness through a cup of water or simply a smile and a kind word?

This mind exercise has probably brought flashbacks of some not-so-Christ-like moments.  Hopefully, there were moments where the love of Christ shined through but it’s likely that human nature far outweighed those “spiritual” moments.  Many of those “unkind” moments were probably directed at those you love and cherish the most.

Today, make a conscious effort to shake off that sinful human nature and express kindness and compassion to those around you.  Smile as you go about your day.  Take time to truly listen to others, showing a genuine interest in their lives.  Offer words of encouragement.  Look for special ways to brighten someone else’s day.   Sometimes all it takes is one smile in their direction to give them hope for another day.  J

Supplication:

Father, I know that I haven’t always been kind to others, especially to those I love the most.  Please forgive me and help me to show compassion, patience, and humility.  Help me to be an encourager and not a complainer.  In Jesus’ name, Amen.

“Prayer is nothing else than being on terms of friendship with God.”  St. Teresa of Avila
