Day 25: Produce Fruit!

Day 25: Produce Fruit- Gentleness and Self-Control

Read and Meditate on:           Proverbs 13: 3

                                                      Micah 6: 8

                                                      James 3: 1 - 17

                                                      I Peter 3: 3 – 6

I don’t know anyone who has perfect self-control.  We all have those moments when we simply “lose it”.  I’m sure memories are flashing through your mind right now – those times when you completely lost your self-control.  It wasn’t pretty, was it?  Mine weren’t.  I still cringe thinking of my “tantrums”.

Even more painful is the thought that Christ calls us to be filled with gentleness and self-control.  That requires not only tenderness and compassion but also restraint and self-discipline.  Those are qualities that I have not always mastered.  However, I must daily strive to …act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with [my] God.”[1]  That requires a never-ending connection with the Holy Spirit.  Only He can empower me to show justice in an unjust world, to show mercy to people who have an entitlement mentality, and to remain humble when the world constantly tells me that it’s all about me.

Seek God’s help today as you desire to show gentleness and self-control with the people who test you today.

Supplication:

Father, forgive those times when I have lost control.  Help me today to be gentle and patient with everyone I meet.  May I represent You well.  In Jesus’ name, Amen.
