With God Every Day is Valentine's Day!

Today is Valentine’s Day, and most people’s thoughts go toward the “significant other” in their lives.  Millions of dollars will be spent on special dining, flowers, jewelry, chocolates, and cards. One sad note will be wondering how many of those special relationships will still be intact on this date next year.

Fortunately, for us, God’s love is not dependent on the gifts that we give to Him.  John 3:16 makes it clear that He freely gave His one and only Son so that anyone who believes in His Son can have eternal life.  That’s a free gift without any strings.  It wasn’t just given on one particular day.  It is a gift that is available 365 days a year, every year until Christ returns.

Perhaps one of the most beautiful things about God’s love is that after we accept the free gift of His Son, His gifts keep coming.  Immediately after we accept Christ as our Savior, He gives us the gift of the Holy Spirit who is our comforter and counselor.

Then, He showers us with new gifts every day.  The book of Lamentations tells us that His mercies are new every morning.  Every day, if we have a repentant heart, we can awaken to a clean slate.  Our sins are washed away and we are made new.

Still, the gifts just keep coming.  He gives us peace in the midst of every storm.  Peter reminds us to cast all our cares on Him because He cares for us.  We are never alone; He is with us!

He also gives us rest.  Matthew tells us to lay down our burdens and allow Christ to give us the rest that we need.

Sometimes life can be very lonely especially if you don’t have that “significant other” to share it with you.  God puts the lonely in families, maybe a group of close friends or relatives or your church family.  The point is that we are never alone nor are we dependent on that “significant other”.  We are God’s children and He cares for us.  With Him, every day is Valentine’s Day!  His love just keeps coming!  With Him, life is so much more than a “box of chocolates”!
