Hi, I'm the Sun Porch Lady

Hi, I’m the Sun Porch Lady.

I recently retired and while most of the world thinks that is a wonderful thing, I've found it to be anything but wonderful. I've been going to school and/or working since I was six years old so finding myself with nothing, but free time is a whole new experience.  I have no structure, no daily schedule, and seemingly no purpose in my life.  While that may sound like heaven, I believe that Christians never retire.  God just repurposes them.

As I struggled to find new purpose and bring some structure back to my life, I turned to writing.  Over the years, I have often written devotional thoughts or put various ideas to paper.  I can’t say that I’ve ever been very good at journaling but from time to time, I have written about events in my life that taught me values or made me more aware of God working in my life.

So, to keep busy and hopefully spark an interest in others I've decided to create this blog. I’m calling it Musings from My Sun Porch because I spend 80% of my time there except in the coldest part of the winter.  My home backs up to a wooded area, so from my Sun Porch I can hear and see much of God’s creation, and it gives me joy to be there.

I hope that some of my comments will bring joy to you as well.  Now, I must warn you that my interests are varied so I’m sure that the topics will be as well.  I’m an American history buff.  I love to read, especially mysteries, and I love spending time with my friends, especially if involves a beach or a competitive board or card game.  Sports have always been one of my passions, and I especially love watching baseball and basketball when my great nephews are playing.  I just wish that I was still in good enough shape to join them.  As a retired attorney, I’m also interested in legal issues that affect Churches and religious freedom.  I’m also a retired Church Business Administrator, so various laws and financial issues that affect churches also grab my attention.  My greatest love is spending time in the Word and getting to know my God better, which is why group Bible studies are also important to me.

All these interests have an impact on my thoughts and ideas, so I am sure that my comments will jump from one subject to another.  You may have more interest in some of my comments than others, but that’s okay.  Hopefully, you won’t be bored, and you will find some takeaways from time to time that you can apply to your own life.

Ultimately my goal is to provide something that will encourage, support, inspire, provide direction, or otherwise nurture someone.  If what I write has an impact on only one person that's okay because that means that I've made a difference in someone’s life.  That gives me purpose, and I believe that is one thing that we were all created for.

If any of this sounds interesting to you, then I hope you'll join me as I share my thoughts, my understandings, and my life with you. Welcome to my Sun Porch!

  4. I also forgot to say how much I enjoy seeing people in a deep way and learn why God put stories in Genesis. I may be quiet but I am constantly learning.
